  Logging contents of Data Storage

  Hi,

  At my work we have a Drobo and multiple 16TB disk packs that go along with it. My boss asked me to come up with a spread sheet of some sort so we can quickly see what’s on each disk pack. Is there some sort of application that can analyze the contents of a storage device, or will this be one big manual operation for me. Just wondering if there’s something available that could make my life a bit easier.

  Hey Rob,

  We setup a filemaker database for logging all of our backed up media. Ours includes drives, LTO3 tapes and the original media tapes however so it may be a little extensive.

  Something like CD Finder may be a better and faster option for you, plus the demo will let you catalog up to 25 drives or something like that.

  Yes, I would like to use File Maker Pro since it seemed so practical at my last job, but I think my boss wanted a quick solution for now until we find some time to set up a huge data base with File Maker. I’ll check out CD finder.

  I just checked out CD Finder’s tutorials and this seems to be the PERFECT solution for a few guys needing a quick data base until we can find time to develop something legit in File Maker Pro. Thanks a lot, much appreciated
