Why oh why do my clips go offline!?!?
I think my situation is different than others I’ve seen on this forum. I am having clips go offline from the FCP 7 project (“media offline”) and I have to reconnect them when I re-open the project. But only some, not all, of the clips go offline – I don’t know why five randomly spaced clips would go offline and not ALL clips in the bin!! I am NOT moving or renaming any clips in the finder, I am NOT saving clips to the working hard drive on the computer. Could this be a workflow problem, or a scratch disk path issue?
I have managed to avoid disaster thus far, but i’m sick of reconnecting media every time I open a project to work on.

What hard drive is your media on please?

@Chris: I am using a Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive for the capture scratch. Once things are logged and transfered from the card I DO NOT move or rename anything.
@Dave: I think I i’m just getting into the ‘litany.’ Can you direct me to a checklist for workflow? I just don’t get why some files go off and some stay. It would make more sense if a whole bin or project disconnected, but only a small some files go offline. Where do I start?

correction! – my scratch disk is actually on a server connected with ethernet cable. 1TB capacity, which is already filling up. My storage is USB 2.0, which I’m only using for raw clips for archive. Does that change anything?

Final Cut 6.0 and I think 6.01 had this problem. If that’s what you’ve got, download the free updates to get the highest version of 6.
