So I have DeckLink studio connected from my mac to and HDTV. playback worked fine but then I had to reinstall FCP. Now I can’t get any live video to play on the HDTV as the external monitor.

I’ve tried all of the possible options under VIDEO PLAYBACK and of course i have ALL frames enabled.

The weird part is the when i select “show current” a still frame will pop up on the HDTV. so obviously everything is connected correctly.

My sequence is not H264 it’s apple pro res 422 which always has worked fine.

Is there some setting to get live playback to work?

    Thanks

Have you reinstalled the drivers for your Decklink device? If not, that’s most likely the ticket.

No I haven’t, I don’t see why there would be a need for that.

When I use the preview feature in after effects it works just fine and the video appears on the HDTV.

It seems like it’s only FCP that has the problem. Would I still need the drivers?

and would the drivers be uninstalled when I uninstalled FCP?

When you reinstall an application that looks for third party hardware, you must reinstall the drivers that are designed to link the core application with the peripherals.

By reinstalling FCP it can’t know about the external hardware until drivers are installed. The old driver install no longer talks to the FCP app.

So is that why After effects still works and FCP doesn’t?

I just don’t know much about the black magic system they had it all installed before I was working here:

When I pop in the black magic CD i get a ton of options, none of which seem to be “drivers”

    Broadcast convert
    HD Link
    Mutlibridge
    DVI Extender
    Decklink
    Intensity
    videohub
    media express

    which do i want?

I”m guessing it’s Deck link, do i want to uninstall then reinstall or just install over the top of what i have?

Always uninstall and reinstall drivers for I/O devices.

And, anytime you tinker with new versions or updates of FCP you almost always will have to do this, so wrap your head around it ASAP Adam.
