Background over saturated.
I was wondering if there are any tutorials out there, or someone can help me, on how to fix over saturated footage? An example is when you are filming from the inside and the window isn’t covered and is over blown or too bright? Oh yeah, the footage is HD if that matters.

That is not over saturated, that is over exposed. If the footage is blown out there is not much you can do about that, you can lower the highlights to legal limits but that doesn’t give you back the detail. There are some plugins that help ease the pain but they are not a fix.

Ok cool. I kind of figured that but figured I would ask the experts. Can you point me in the direction of some of those plugins please? Thanks!

The problem is in the way it was shot. Over exposed areas that appear as white have no color information for plug ins to reference for a fix.

Talk to your cameraman and ask him to try and avoid this situation in the future. ie reposition the shot or light it appropriately.

That was the filter I was thinking of. If it is really blown out it is impossible to make it look good, but you can make it look less bad.
