my colleague is creating 2d motion graphics from scratch with After Effects 7.0 on the mac using solids in various shapes and 3d lights.

    The comp is 16-bit.

There is a blue part that is showing banding on our SDI broadcast monitor via blackmagic hardware (live preview not rendered)

If he turns off the light the banding goes away. If he adds a blue tint to the light it goes partially away, but then it doesn’t really look good with the blue cast.

I searched the forum here and the only solution I found is to add some HSL noise.

    Is that the only option?

I find it a bit silly that AE can’t seem to do smooth gradients from a light in a 16 bit comp using solids.
