  Editing with interlaced and progressive in one sequence…

  im editing footage half of which is shot at 1080p and the other half in 1080i. The sequence settings are set to field dominance: none, compressor: xdcam ex 1080p25 (35 mb/s vbr). i plan to export using these settings. is it okay to just edit the footage as is or should i convert the interlace footage to progressive before i start editing? what problems might i encounter, and is there a quick way to convert the interlace clips to progressive in final cut?

  I would edit as is and let compressor convert it to progressive.

  Hi Peter,

  It kind of depends on the delivery format in my opinion. Will this be for the web or for tape?
  For web, stick with progressive. For tape you might as well go interlaced and save any unnecessary upscaling as you’ll be going back to interlaced anyway.

  In any case, change your compressor in your Sequence Settings to Apple ProRes 422 and render/export with that to avoid quality loss.
