  • What should I trust regarding field order?monitor thru FCP or Matrox?

Posted by Joakim Ekström on November 25, 2010 at 8:17 pm

I have a xdcam project, timeline and source files settings match. But my monitor (SONY PVM-14L4 thru matrox mxo2 mini) shows strange field “jitter” when people move (the typical different field order error). So I added the shift fields filter and everything looks fine.. But when I export it, it looks a bit “interlacy” on my lcd monitor, so I play the file in matrox own videoplayer, so I can see it on the monitor, and it looks the same as before shift fields. BUT when i import the clip back into fcp, and play it on the timeline, it looks great????

    Which monitor “player” is right?

Sorry for my english I don´t have the right english terms for describing my problem, hope its understandable anyway.

OK in PAL only DV is lower field. As you source material is upper, use a ProRes sequence and ProRes settings in Matrox. Using the Dv setting is most likely screwing with the field order in you external monitoring so make sure the sequence and the Matrox settings match and are upper field. Then all monitoring shound line up. You will need to remove the shift fields filter to get your clips back to normal.

If you have changed heaps of clips and you have other filters you need to keep then this software will help –
