  • Question regarding importing graphics in final cut pro

Posted by Vaishakh Babu on November 24, 2010 at 2:22 pm

we all know that graphics have to be resized before importing into final cut, for eg:a 720*480 ntsc video the graphic has to be re sized at 720*540, am i right

but it seems that it applies for some resolutions only, correct me if i am wrong,

i have 2 images one at 720*480 and the other is 200*430, the 720*480 gets thinned out and the 200*430 one stays the same when imported into a ntsc 720*480 non-anamorphic sequence, why is this,

heres the link of the 2 images:

    https://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6973/720480getsdistorted.jpg

also what does the “correct for apsect ratio” do when checked under the popup menu in the canvas and viewer window, and why is it greyed out sometimes ?

Sorry, but i am having a hard time understanding these concepts,

    thankyou

    regards,

[Vaishakh Babu] “we all know that graphics have to be resized before importing into final cut, for eg:a 720*480 ntsc video the graphic has to be re sized at 720*540, am i right”
Well, to match an NTSC 4×3 frame with square pixels (Photoshop), you need to make the graphic 720×540.

[Vaishakh Babu] “i have 2 images one at 720*480 and the other is 200*430, the 720*480 gets thinned out and the 200*430 one stays the same when imported into a ntsc 720*480 non-anamorphic sequence, why is this,”
Probably one of both pictures have wrong “pixels aspect ratio”.
Have a look in he Browser and have a look to that setting. Change it and see what happens on the Viewer.

Nope they both are square pixels, actually they are just portions of the same image, exported from photoshop

So if both shows as Square pixels on the Browser, left-click both stills on the time-line and “Remove Attributes> Basic Motion + Distort”.
