  FCP 6.0.6 & MC 5.0.3 on same system = issues!!

  FCP Ver 6.0.6 (Academic)
  MC ver 5.0.3 (Full Version)
  Quicktime ver 10.0

  HELP!!!!!

  I’ve been running FCP 6.0.6 Academic great for months..
  I had a project that required MC5. I buy it, install it, go through the crap it takes to upgrade it to 5.0.3 so that it will work on snow leopard. Great MC5 works.. I get the job done.. Someone told me MC5 is touchy and to NOT open final cut until my project is finished.. Good advice because I would have gotten completely sidetracked trying to fix FCP if I had. MC5 works like a champ no problems.. FCP opens but I get the Rainbow wheel if I try to do anything. I can’t even change my scratch disc location.. It’s like my whole FCP installation took a crap the minute I installed MC5.

  Work is backing up.. I’m a gazzillion times faster on FCP and only learning MC5 so I need to get my FCP running but I don’t want to destroy MC5 either.

  I cannot be the only person on the earth with this issue.. PLEASE somebody help me.

  You would ideally have a dual boot situation. One drive w/OS for MC5, and one drive w/OS for FCP, you can’t install on the same drive.

  I’d buy another drive, reinstall Snow Leoaprd on it and then install FCP clean. Then when it comes time to work in MC5, simply boot from that drive.

  Asking for problems. Dual boot is indeed the solution to your problems. AVID and FCP partition.

  Well, I happen to have it four ways. I do have a Snow Leopard partition that has Avid MC 5.0.3 on it, and FCP 7.0.3…with zero issues. But for a while, with Avid MC 4 and FCP 7….they had different requirements for QT and OS versions…so I had different boot partitions for them. That is the best way to go, but I will say that FCP 7 and MC5 work fine.

  But you have FCP 6…so that might be an issue…

  Is ALL you did different is load Avid? Nothing else? Just uninstall Avid then…it’s easy.
