• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  FCP 5 + JVC GY HM 100 or CANON 7D and buy more stuff ? ? ?

  Hi there.

  To make a long story short, I am planning on shooting a feature in April 2011. We will have a tiny crew, micro budget with a decent script.

  For the last year I was considering the JVC GY HM 100 for its workflow simplicity.

  I had an opportunity to buy the following CPU in which I was planning on using FCP 5.0.4…

  MAC OS 10.5.8
  Dual 2.5 GHz
  4.5 GB SDRAM
  2 TB HD

  I have read that I need FCP 6 to make this work with the JVC PRO HD camera. Can someone confirm this? Also if there is other things I should note, please mention?

  My other producers dilemma is I have now been introduced to the Canon 7D. However there seem to be more issues here, i.e. external sound recorder, 12 minutes recording, possible camera over heating, new CPU required, FCP 7 required.

  To keep it simple what are the minimum requirements for the Canon 7d to be edited efficiently?

  Always use the newest version of Final Cut. Get the JVC camera.

  When budgets are tight and timelines are short, the last things you need to deal with are outdated software, devices requiring more and more add-on equipment and trying to wrangle a handful of differing workflows. The JVC has everything you need onboard and is directly supported by Final Cut.

  I thought I read somewhere that FCP 7 will only work with Intel CPU’s?

  Ture? No?
