HD footage output to SD DVCam
Posted by Jo Barber on November 15, 2010 at 9:26 pmI have a FCP time line that is all 25 fps / HD footage that we purchased from Europe. I need to export this to DVCam. I have an AJA LHe card. When I master out to tape, it prints the audio and no video. Can someone help? Thanks!

November 16, 2010 at 12:17 amYou should be able to set the control panel for the card to have the HD as it’s native format, and then output SD. You’d set the external video to be HD (then the card does the down conversion in real time.)
BUT you’ve started with 25fps video, so the deck you’re using must be able to record PAL DV.

November 17, 2010 at 12:54 amAre you dumping with SDI or Firewire to DVCAM?
Check your audio/video settings. Alternative edit to tape/print to video settings could cause this.If you’re dumping SDI. Choose HD as primary format in AJA control panel. SD as secondary format.
Choose HD playback settings in FCP.
Connect SDI device to Secondary output. -

November 17, 2010 at 1:47 pmThat’s the problem! You’re not using the Kona card.
In order to do it that way you have to down convert the HD to SD in a sequence or file export then print the DV PAL file you’ve created to tape.
It’s the Kona card doing the down conversion in my first answer, and you’re not going through that… you could use the card, then use analog cables (if your recording device doesn’t have a digital input other than the FireWire) to your recording device and then the card will do the down conversion.
