  Smoothcam HD to SD

  Hi, smart, knowledgeable people. I’m trying to smooth out some HD footage (shot in 1080-30p), but it will be used in a SD sequence. The smoothcam works great and looks great on the clips when they are in an HD sequence, but when I put the clip on the SD sequence timeline, there are frames where the footage gets noticeably soft. Is this due to going from progressive to interlaced? Is there a way to make it as beautiful and smooth as in the HD timeline?

  Don’t let FCP downscale the footage.
  Do a downscale to SD in Compressor with the Frame controls ON. Resize filter to BEST.
  That’s a HUGE difference in quality compared to FCP scaling.

  Thank you for your response, Paul. I did figure out another solution though. I exported the smoothed HD clips out as a stand-alone quicktime movie and imported it back into FCP. It was then pretty.
