FCP on a power pc
Posted by Scott Sudbury on November 8, 2010 at 3:32 amWhat version of FCP do you recommend running on an older g5 duel 2.0 power pc?
I currently have 4.5.

November 8, 2010 at 3:45 amI had 10.4.11 with FCP 6.0.6 running well on a dual 2.5 G5. ProRes is such a useful codec that you really want to go to 6.0.6. You can’t go past that point with your hardware.

November 8, 2010 at 6:45 amSounds good, do you know if the g5 quad with 8 gigs of ram will run fcp 6.0.2 a lot faster than a g5 duel with 4 gigs of ram when used for fairly basic editing.

November 8, 2010 at 11:09 pmI went straight from my G5 dual to a 2.9 nehalem octo so I don’t know if the quad G5s are much different to the duals. Upgrade to 6.0.6. It is final and stable. Early versions of 6 had various bugs and a lot of features were added for codecs like XDCam in later upgrades.
