  • Problem – Exporting 3:2 to 16:9 for youtube widescreen

Posted by Aj Barber on November 5, 2010 at 3:24 am

Thanks for the help. I’m new here and to FCP.

I’m trying to fill the new widescreen format on youtube and am attempting to export my 3:2 sequence to a 16:9 format that works.

Any suggestions / basics appreciated. Trying to figure this stuff out.

    Peace

Set it up in FCP first… Put the original clips ( just copy and paste them into a 16:9 sequence (don’t change frame rate nor codec. Then send that sequence to compressor…

    Thanks Jerry!

I couldn’t figure out what 16:9 setting to choose for my new timeline sequence to cut and paste my 3:2 into as you suggested… and although I have compressor, I’m unsure which setting to select their to get my final export to play full screen on youtube…

So I tried HDTV 16:9 (720?) and then exported as a qt conversion (mpeg 4 improved) and it didn’t work at all…

Been pulling my hair out with this…hurting in the curve on this one…

Thanks again…I’ll get it eventually…any other suggestions / steps appreciated!

    Great service/community here.

    4:3 DV…it actually said NTSC DV 3:2

I tried changing the aspect ratio, then resizing, loosing some of my frame and then exporting in 1280.

Don’t really know what I’m doing here…but it looks less stretched and fills the youtube screen.

All I want to do is take footage that I shot in “normal” mode with my DVX100b and get it to fit the whole 16:9 youtube screen without making the actor look bloated / footage strecthed.

Your time is appreciated my friend. Have a great day!
