    Hi:

I’m running FCP 5.1.4 on a Macbook Pro (specs: 2Ghz Intel Core Duo/2 GB 667 mhz ddr sdram) capturing from DSR-11 (dvcam tapes) through a FW 400 cable (Glyph External) and the video will pause in random locations in during capture (picture on monitor goes into slow motion and the dsr-11 goes into pause mode) and then the data catches up and continues to capture. It will capture the entire hour long tape but with missing pieces, resulting in broken up files in my project and missing four or five seconds between each file.

    Thanks for your advice.

It appears, upon further testing, that I’m dealing with timecode breaks, although when I look at the original footage, I don’t see any. So I suppose this is phantom timecode issues, but I haven’t experienced this before in recent projects.

The only factor that is different is the use of DVCAM tapes vs. mini dv tapes, but I can’t imagine that would make a difference?

    Some enlightenment please…joe

It shouldn’t make a difference.. you can set fcp to ignore the breaks or have it make a new clip whenever it encounters a break. Are you capturing to an external drive or your internal hard drive?

Try to capture to your system disk without any other firewire devices. Just as a test.
Just connect the camera/deck and try to capture. Same issue?

Thanks Chad. I’m capturing to an external HD, (Glyph, 1T, brand spankin’ new)…i thought i had set up FCP to ignore breaks in TC, but enlighten me again to make sure i have done it in the correct spot…and of course any other advice, since i’m feeling that i’m running low on possible solutions..thanks, joe

    Hi Paul:

    Thanks for the idea.

So, if I followed your instructions correctly, I tested by not capturing to the external HD, but just directing it onto my local HD? That is what I did, with the same results..a few minutes pass and then the capture encounters a TC issue.
