  • Final Cut Pro won’t recognise HVR-M15E

Posted by Mike Peters on November 3, 2010 at 12:12 pm

I recently got a new MacBook Pro 10.6.4. The MacBook itself recognises the firewire HVR-M15E but Final Cut Pro says “Unable to Initialize Capture Device” when I open Log and Capture.

I have tried all the usual basic tricks but without any luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.

Are you trying to capture DV or HDV?
Do you have the proper easy setup? DV or HDV?

In most cases the root of this problem is that iLink conversion is set to ON on the deck.
When you have HDV tape, HDV easysetup, but your deck outputting DV, you get these kind of issues.

I’m using DV tapes. When I use my desk top mac it works fine with the tape deck, but it will not with the MacBook. The MacBook reads the firewire yet Final Cut Pro will not connect to it.
