  DVCPRO HD and HDV Compatibility

  Hello,

  I’m working for a company that has 3 different cameras for shooting sporting events in 2 different formats. We have a HPX 170 shooting 1080i 24p, a Sony FX1 at 1080i 60, and a Sony handicam type deal shooting 1080i 60 also. The Sony gear is HDV, Panasonic DVCPRO HD.

  My question is, what’s the best transcode to match these footages for a FCP timeline/multi-clipping. The first issue to deal with is the aspect ratio as the DVCPro HD ratio is 1280×1080 and the HDV is 1440×1080.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

  If you are doing Multicam editing, everything has to match, codec, resolution and framerate. First thing, why would you shoot the Panny at 24fps. Match the all the cameras at 1080i/60. Then I would convert everything to ProRes, get out of HDV, especially for multicam. If you don’t want to convert all 3, then take the HDV to DVCProHD.

  But in the end they all have to match specs exactly.
