  Using footage as a transition

  I have footage of a flame burning on a black background, is it possible to use it as a transition, so that it would appear as though the footage is burning? I tried using gradient wipe, with the footage set to “add” and as the gradient…and it works ok, but it doesnt really burn it.

  is there someway to have the transition follow the motion of the flames?

  I know there are burnt film transitions in both fcp and ae, but the footage i have is realistic, and a little more interesting.

  Any suggestions?

  You probably have to draw a mask and animate its shape to match the motion of the flames. I don’t think AE can follow the motion of the flames as our mind interprets it.
