    Hello-

We’re a medium sized post production company, primarily Avid based. We have an Avid Unity server (ver 5.0.2) we’re planning on incorporating our FCP bays into the Unity and wanted to learn about how this works and the best work flows for doing so. Our FCP bays are running 10.5 and FCP 7.0.2. Not sure if this matters but they are also all Kona 3.

Any an all info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, just get the PCIe card that connects you to the Unity and that’s about it. it will show up as a hard drive on the desktop…and you can use it as such. There isn’t an interface with it like in Avid..sharing projects the way Avid does…but it will work as a SAN drive.

Thanks.. Besides connecting, do you know of any work flow issues? Specifically throughput issues- Also I’ve read that in some cases when switching between FCP and finder there can be a hick up that can result in 30 seconds of the wheel of death… Have you heard of this? And or are there any patches or solutions? Thanks!

What…dropped frames and all that? I was on a show that had a UNITY for all the FCP stations…4 of them. No issues. Will this be a single stand alone station just using the UNITY as drive space?

I have. OLDER Unity units. Gotta be current on software.

Keep the software current. The UNITY software…

Hi Shane, just a quick question – are you referring to the Unity software on the client machine or at the server end of things?
