  • Convert Audio only – PAL to NTSC

Working on a project where the video has previously been converted from PAL to NTSC. The audio (AC-3 5.1), however, is still in PAL and has not been converted (due to last minute changes).

What is the best procedure and application to use to convert the audio to NTSC so that it stays in sync?

The final output will be a SD NTSC DVD authored with DVDSP.

There is no PAL-NTSC audio, but the question is how was the conversion to the video done.

DId the PALs timebase change from 25 to 24fps? If so you apply that same speed change to the audio (pretty sure you will have to convert it to aiff files and then back to ac3.)

If there was just a pulldown add to make the 25 playback at 29.97 the audio should still be in sync.

Make sure you are going to 23.98 or 29.97 framerate for the NTSC and not true 24 or 30 fps.
