Below is a link to a pretty cool effect I’m trying to simulate using only FCS. Whats a good workflow for creating something like this? And how do they create those effects?

    Here’s my thoughts.
I would think you would use FCP to edit down your clips and export them out in the editing codec. Then using Motion (if you can for this effect or maybe AE) create a graphics project and effects. My guess is these are animated and keyframed alpha channels to let the video clips show through those effects. Then its all composited together, rendered out and brought back into FCP for final lay back.

They most likely used AE or maybe even something like Smoke, but could FCS pull this off?

You can do ALL of this in FCP…easy. You just need the paint splotch drops to key in this effect. White splotches against black…black splotches against white. Then layering and garbage matting. But, you need those splotches first…and if you can’t find them on some stock footage site, you might have to shoot them.
