I am a FCP user wanting to get into Motion and After Effects. I am looking for a new computer and am thinking about one of these set ups.

    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 4x4GB
    2TB Serial ATA Drive

    VS

    3.60GHz Intel Core i5
    16GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 4x4GB
    2TB Serial ATA Drive

    VS

    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2x4GB
    2TB Serial ATA Drive

are we talking a huge difference in power and speed?

These apps want the faster processor and more ram, don’t forget the graphic card plays a huge part in speed on these apps. If you are going to be doing a lot and are serious about motion graphic, seriously consider getting an 8 or 12 core Mac Pro. That is not to say that you cannot use these systems.
