  I want to make some upgrades on my edit suite to enhance after effects performance

  Here is the system I’m running:
  Mac G5 duel 1.8
  2 GB RAM
  ATI RADEON 9600 GRAPHIC CARD
  Are there any upgrades that can be made that will make a significant difference in after effects performance and render time? Does RAM improve render time? Same question about the graphic card? Thanks!

  Don’t upgrade the graphics card. It would be a waste of money since AE wouldn’t make use of it, and I’m not enjoying my interaction with ATI as I attempt to send back my X800 XT upgrade card for the second time. Maybe it’s just me.

  Yes, get more RAM. Search the COW for RAM if you want confirmation. Get at least another 2 GB.

  Get Nucleo Pro to make use of both processors.

  If you really need to run Motion, Cinema 4D or Color (ugh!), bite the bullet and get an 8-core MacPro with 8GB RAM (if you can afford it), and get the next-level card that ships with the box. Yowza!
