Dropping frames while editing!
I am constantly dropping frames while editing and my playback keeps stopping with the warning box popping up.
All my footage was shot with a Nikon D90 HDSLR Camera. Footage was converted over to Apple ProRes 422 using mpeg streamclip.
This is what I have done to try and correct the problem:
In my User settings, I have 6 Audio tracks listed however in my timeline I am only using 4.
I changed Unlimited RT to Safe RT.
Compression Data Rate? Where do I find this and what should it be?
I used Pluraleyes to sync my audio and if you have used Pluraleyes, you know it creates several sequences. I went ahead and closed the tabs of the ones I wasn’t working in.
I am using a CalDigit 4TB Hard drive but am only using 1.8 TB. I have it configured to mirror the other drive.
Using FW 800
Any thoughts on what I need to do differently to stop the annoying drop frames box from popping up?

There is a setting that you can uncheck and it will not give you this warning, as long as you are not printing to tape there is no real issue if you drop a frame.
Normally RT should be set to Unlimited. But what are video rate and quality set to? Dynamic on video and full on frame rate is what I have it set on most of the time. Dynamic/Dynamic it also good, then I do Full video and dynamic frame when color correcting.
But the real question is, does your sequence match your clips exactly?
1080p even with ProRes is pushing the limits of FW800 but with the above settings you should be ok.

Well the only reason I turned Unlimited RT off was because that was one of the suggestions when the pop up box came up.
Here are the other settings I have:
Playback – Unlimited RT
Video Quality – Dynamic
Frame Rate – Full
Pulldown – 2:3:2:3
Gamma Correction – AccurateMy sequence and capture settings do match:
Matrox Mini MXO2 – Apple Pro Res422 720p, 29.97 48KHZ

If a single frame is dropped during playback for whatever reason, the warning comes up… as was suggested, turn off the warning, and I’ll bet that you don’t see much if any difference in your actual workflow. and I’ll second the notion that if you’re not going to tape in the end, it doesn’t really matter so know about those dropped frames.
Mirroring the drives cut the available speed quite a lot as well. (but of course at the risk of file loss if you go Raid 0 instead) Probably by about 50%. If the drive has an eSata connection, you’d find that mirrrored drive setup would speed up a lot using that instead of the FW port. FW 800 is a bottleneck actually. And you likely wouldn’t drop the frames as often.
