How can I set a default countdown file for Final Cut Pro 7.0.1 to use every time I do an “Edit to Tape” or “Print to Video”?

I can set the file I would like to use, and it operates just fine. But every time I close out of Final Cut and reopen the application, it recalls that I want to use a file but the file name is lost. Thus, I have to click the little folder icon and choose my file every time I have restarted Final Cut.

We are using this for our daily news broadcast. Every story gets the same countdown on it.

    Thank you for your help.

Try trashing your preferences for FCP. If this doesn’t clear it up, then it’s either a bug or simply a feature not supported. There are no settings in the User Prefs to have FCP specifically remember the path to this custom countdown file.

A workaround would be to create template sequence of your leader (bars, tone, etc.) and reuse it. Just duplicate and copy/paste your working sequence after it. Export it as XML and import that XML into all your projects.
