compression
Posted by Daniel Corcoran on September 20, 2010 at 5:26 pmHi,
Wasn’t too sure where to post this question,
I’m looking for advice on sending an off line edit to my on line editor via dropbox or yousendit etc. My final edit is 2.8gb 800mb bigger then the 2gb max on dropbox. What is my best option when compressing this QT so that it a, under 2gb and b, the best possible footage for the grading process,
cheers

September 20, 2010 at 5:37 pmBreak it up in to smaller chunks for the sending… if you recompress it to anything other than the format you edited, you’re going to step on the quality.

September 20, 2010 at 5:37 pmThere isn’t. You can’t compress something to send it to someone to then try to grade. That’s the worse thing you can do. Either burn it to a Data DVD, or pay the extra to join YouSendIt on a higher level, then send. Or do they have an FTP?

September 20, 2010 at 5:38 pmWhat you are describing is not offline/online editing. You have also not given any useful information. What is the length of the project, what is the codec it is already. If you are asking someone else to grade this they will want it in clips of individual cuts and not a single movie.

Pay $10 and upgrade your file size limit for a month if you want to use drop box. But if you will be sending large file a lot there are alternatives that are cheeper over time.
