Slightly OT Memory Issues
I have a 2008 Ocotcore OS X 10.6.4, FCP 7.0.3 etc. which had 2GB of Apple memory which i took out and installed 8 Gb of Crucial memory, (1) 4GB on Riser A and the other on Riser B. About a month ago I read a post here that seem to indicate I had installed the memory wrong and after further investigation I found that Apple says never have an odd number of sticks on a riser. So I installed the (2) 4GB sticks on riser A and put the original (2) 1 GB sticks on riser B. My machine seems to work slower, especially when accessing disks.
Have I installed the Ram wrong? If so how should I do it?John 3:16

I think that the way is to have exactly the same in both risers.
I would try 4 GB + 1 GB on each.

Yes, Don… The memory is installed wrong. Apple suggest same size memory across both risers.
So… On the older style Intel computers, memory should be install in equal pairs across risers. So if you want 8 gig of total memory, you need to install (2) 2 gig bars on Riser A and (2) 2 gig bars on Riser B. This is done for best performance in FCP.

Thats right. But I think the problem Wayne is having is that he has 2x4GB sticks, and 2x1GB sticks. I think this is causing a bottleneck.
Might try ditching the 1GB sticks and running just the 4’s.Scott Sheriff

This is true…. but you have to be running matching pairs across the risers.
