  • Setting Up New Edit System – Monitors?

    Hi all,

Was hoping to get some input –

I’m upgrading my home edit system from an iMac with a Samsung SyncMaster 2043 acting as a secondary monitor. I’m looking to purchase a MacPro that will be both an Media Composer and Final Cut station. I’m looking to buy the Matrox Mini M2 as to monitor out for the Avid.

My question is that – I’m very accustomed to editing on Apple Displays – not looking to spend over $2,000 for a pair of displays, can anyone offer up a good monitor, with it’s colors similar to Apple’s display monitors, ideally about 24”, widescreen HD, for no more than $500 each?

Thank you for your posts – I really appreciate your feedback!

Look at Dell. I have two 24″ Dell 2405 monitors, and swear by them. Now I think they are up to 2409…

I second Shane’s recommendation. I have the Dell 2407. You can still get these secondhand etc and they are excellent and reasonably priced. I hear that inside they are very similar to the Apple monitors. They also have 2 usb, a cf and an sd slot on the side and at least one usb on the back.

Do double check what Dell-monitor you buy however. One generation suffered for scary ghosting-artifacts making them virtually useless (not Dells fault, just their choice of panel was poor – Samsungs with the same hardware had the same issues). This was a reason why Apple was stuck with their “silver” 20-23″ Cinema Display as well I think.

But I can say Dell CAN make very good monitors. I use 2x DELL 2209WA monitors from them (22″ IPS-panel).
