monitoring on a LCD TV?
I am still monitoring my videos (SD and HD) on my LG LCD computer screen or on my NTSC tube TV. Since I have been working more with HD footage (720p and 1080p), I would like to purchase a 2nd screen to use not only as another computer screen but also as a TV to have my non BlueRay dvd player connected to via HDMI. I need to see what the videos are looking like on average LCD screens.
My problem is that I also want to be able to watch/monitor my conventional DV NTSC 4×3 interlaced footage,which is on minDV and DVD. And I have been looking at LCDs at stores and bringing in my DVDs and the interlaced footage looks HORRIBLE, like old-school YouTube footage.
Being a video editor and motion graphics animator, I understand teh basic differences between interlaced and progressive, so I understand how interlaced footage looks so lame on these progressive Full HD screens. But what are the factors involved in this situation? The DVD player’s HDMI output? Progressive Scan DVD player? Professional LCD monitor?In interlaced/progressive SD world, I feel secure and know what to do, but the SD->HD transision period is driving me nuts and I cannot come to any conclusion about what LCD/TV screen to buy as a 2nd monitor AND TV for viewing the resulting SD dvds I encode. Noting that I do not have access to purchasing a professional monitor, so I need to find the best solution within the 1000 dollar price range…! :O
Maybe the best would be for someone to indicate a forum or article about this situation?

Steve, thanks for the reply.
Answering your question, I don’t have an I/O card… I would monitor via the MacMini’s 2nd video output as well as watch the DVDs I encode, and of course use Final Cut’s Firewire output.
