can’t open 2 of my files
Shot a video DVCProHD 1080i60 on p2 cards and then captured the clips via FCP. All the files will open, except the two largest ones (4GB). Getting ‘the file is not a movie file’ when trying with quicktime. Getting ‘mp4: MP4 plugin discarded (no moov box) ffmpeg: Seeking too far : EOF?’ when trying with VLC. Mpeg streamclip won’t open it either. Are the files just corrupt beyond repair? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you capture from the camera or transfer from the card or hard drive. Do you have backups? Have you tried to capture/transfer again? It’d help if you describe your workflow in more detail.

What he said. Reimport the clips. And if you didn’t back up the card, if you imported the clips, then ERASED THE CARD…there’s something wrong with you.

The files were off-loaded directly from the cards in a PCMCIA slot in an older MacBook. Used the import from P2 function in FCP. No, nothing was backed up, believe it or not, but I wasn’t involved in that end of things so fortunately there’s nothing wrong with me, per se. 🙂

My only thought is to Google Quicktime Repair and search the Cow, too. There are a couple of programs/services out there that might help. It’s possible that the file’s just missing a header so QT doesn’t recognize it.
