  Using Still Images/Best 16:9 Export Settings

  Hi, I’m fairly new to FCP but have experience creating HD videos for online streaming. A client of ours is looking for a 90-120 second video composed of still images created with the following specs:

  -Under 39 mb
  -16:9 ratio
  – Options for size:
  520 pixels wide x approximately 292 pixels with the 16:9 ratio
  400 pixels wide x approximately 225 pixels with the 16:9 ratio
  420 pixels wide x approximately 270 pixels with the 16:9 ratio
  or 1040 pixels wide x approximately 584 pixels with the 16:9 ratio

  The video is only still images and some moving text. My questions are:

  -Will the image file size affect final output? As the video needs to be rather small in file size and I’m working with some tif’s and jpgs that are rather large.
  -What are the best settings for export to achieve a 16:9 ratio, good looking video, yet still a small file size?
  -They’d prefer a FLV, which FCP can’t export, but will converting an MOV to FLV compress it to a smaller size?

  528 x 298

  512 x 288

  400 x 224

  416 x 234

  1024 x 576 (perfect for PAL stuff)
  All these sizes will yield a 16 x 9 picture, when you export as SQUARED pixels.

  Export H264 (Key-frames AUTO, Double pass). Try a data rate around 600 Kbps.

  Export as H264, then change the “.mov” extension for “.flv”.

  Great. Thanks for the input, Rafael. You mention exporting as “Squared” pixels, which I don’t really see an option for. Can you be more specific on this? Thanks.

  Then you don’t have to worry.
  If not specified, computers always play Square pixels.
  Your picture will look 16×9 in QT player or Flash.
