  • FCP output causes drives to randomly eject!?

Posted by Rick Turners on September 8, 2010 at 6:45 am

Running into a lot of issues this week…

These drives are super stable, however, when I try to export any sequence from this project, the drives randomly eject halfway through the export!?

    What could cause this?

What drives? What export? What project? I can’t see your computer from here so you might just have to give us some information, any information.

    True..

This is a 20 minute reel, 1920×1080 > 23.98 > PRORES422 + some h264 clips, random stills over 4k in resolution, which I’ve reimported at 1920×1080. (I’ve disabled the old ones in the timeline)
I’ve also disabled removed all filters.

Nothing else too strange in the project, I’ve never experienced this before.

I can’t seem to get any of the sequences in this project to export without the drives ejecting and giving me the “you’ve ejected the drives improperly” notice.

    How are these drives connected?

    Internal?
    External?
    Firewire?
    eSATA?

    They are connected via Firewire.

The drives may be spinning down during a lengthy export.

Make sure you have “put hard disks to sleep whenever possible” UNCHECKED in the Energy Saver Pref Panel.

Some Firewire drives ignore this setting and do it anyway….

for those, this may be needed…
