automating still export
Hello everyone!
Another beautiful Friday night in the tender paws of FCP…
Would anyone happen to know how to export stills from a timeline in an automated fashion? Instead of going through File -> Export etc., is there a way to ask the program to export, say, 100 stills from a timeline, separated by equal intervals? Or just ask it to export every 500th frame, for instance?

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that, and I feel ashamed of myself.
It definitely beats exporting manually.

That will create consecutive frames. You would still need to delete the unwanted frames.
The other alternative is create an Export Using QuickTime Button. Place your playhead on the frame you want and use the keyboard shortcut Shift N then click on the button. You still need to manually select your settings for each still. If your footage is interlaced, you will need to deinterlace the stills. That can be automated in Photoshop.
It is a tedious process.

The latest versions of Photoshop can open Quicktime movies. Just export reference movie and open in Photoshop… Step through and save the frames you want. Process and deinterlace there.
