Bad Framerate
So here’s the weirdness. I am trying to import back in to FCP some audio I’ve exported out of FCP, and then processed in Digital Performer, and subsequently re-imported back into the original FCP project. I have made sure (I thought!) that all framerates match. These are specifically, 48k, 16-bit, 29.97 non-drop.
I worked with DP TS for more than two hours testing, and the framerates are exactly as specified. We ran the following test. Create a brand new DP project, with a single stereo track, and recorded a metronome. We then measured the length of the track to the frame, and the time location of the first transient, and the last. I then exported the file as a .wav de-interleaved, and dragged it into the FCP project, then into the sequence timeline.
When I check the sequence settings, the audio is set to 48k, 16 bit, the framerate is 29.97, and under Timeline options, drop frame is unchecked.
When the track is measured in DP, the end of the file occurs at 4:02;12, and the last transient is at 4:02;07. Once in FCP, the end of the file occurs at 4:02;22, and the last transient is at 4:02;15.
So obviously, I’m missing something here.

Well I think so. AFAIK, the only place to specify that is under the Sequence Settings–>Timeline Options, and there, Drop frame is unchecked.

There’s only one place that can be set in DP, and it is set to 29.97 non-drop.

I’m having another issue with this project. I want this to be a Prores 422 HQ project, at 1920×1080, for an ultimate Blu-ray burn. But I don’t know how to set that in Easy Setup. And then to set that for the sequence as well. I can’t seem to set everything for 1920×1080, but only 1440×1080. So maybe someone can tell me how to properly set everything to display properly in the timeline, and that maybe that’s affecting this somehow?

Try importing an aif of the file. FCP has been reported here often as being too smart with wav files and giving a framerate attribute to the file. Audio has no frame rate, just sample rate so why FCP wants to tag it with a frame rate is a mystery.
So make an aif in DP and import that and see if it syncs.

Someone in the apple discussion suggested that the default for proress 422 was drop, so I created a new sequence, dragged the video file into the timeline, let FCP match the sequence to the file, and sure enough, it was 29.97 drop.
So I re-ran the metronome test, using 29.97 drop in DP. I then exported the file out as deinterleaved .aif’s. The time of the last transient in DP is 4:02;15 and the file ends at 4:02;18. I then imported the aif’s into fcp, dragged them into the same timeline, and measured. The last transient occurs at 4:02;23 and the file ends at 4:02;26.
