Transcode DVCPro HD 720p60 59.94 to 29.97 ?
I have a project where product b-roll and host scenes were shot in DVCPro HD 720p60 @ 59.94, and the master sequence was edited using the same codec and framerate.
What is the best method for converting this DVCPro HD 720p60 edited sequence with audio from 59.94fps to 29.97? And would this conversion even be necessary? — Initial final output needs to be standard-def DVD, and H.264 or WMV for the web…

No need to convert. When you encode for DVD it will convert it to 29.97. And just drop every other frame so it will look like normal 29.97.

This will produce traditional interlaced 29.97 video. No need to do anything, every frame becomes a field.

The default behavior in Compressor is to make fields from p60–at least with the “DVD Best Quality 90-Minutes” setting. You could make p30, but I’m not sure why you’d want to throw away motion information.
As far as Web goes, I’d cut the frame rate in half. There are too many old computers out there that would choke on 59.94 fps–not to mention mobile devices. Just set the frame rate to 29.97 for your web presets and leave it progressive.

Okay, thanks for the advice guys– the last few DVCPro HD 720p60 projects I cut were as 29.97 sequences, so I just wanted to make sure I was still okay with this 59.94 edit. And besides the DVD, I was concerned about the higher framerate for the web, too. Thanks for the help…
