FCP media reconnect chaos
Please help me!
Long story short, I’m working on a short film in final cut pro. We shot everything and kept all the files on one drive. I sent the drive off with all the raw necessary files to an editor. He edited and sent the drive back to me with a master edit FCP file. I need to make credits and make a few changes, so i tired to open the file to do so.
here’s where the problems start. The media won’t connect, because the raw files the editor worked with on the master edit are in a hard drive of a different name. Evidentially all of the raw files used were re named but they are still on the drive.
In addition, we are getting an alert that says “Unable to load effect: ‘Reduce Noise'”, this prevents viewing and rendering of the video.
how exactly do i go about fixing this???
deadlines need to be met, be a lifesaver!!

Were the clip names, not the file names altered. Reconnect should be able to link back to the file name as long as it wasn’t altered.
The missing plugin is a pain. You should be able to open the clip in the viwer and see what the plugin says. They usually are named so that you can identify the maker of the plugin. You may have to purchase the plugin or substitute it.

You don’t! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re hosed!
This is NOT an FCP issue. It’s a workflow issue. Change the filenames and as you’ve discovered, you can’t reconnect. I’d kick this back to your editor and let him figure it out.

Next time hire editors who understand workflows and how to avoid stuff like this. Renaming the source files? Complete blunder. Get the drive from the editor…
And again, hire people who know what they are doing.

What Bouke said … and what Shane said too, of course. In fact, I’d go one further and suggest you actually hire Shane himself if at all possible (and he has a copy of FCPreconnect too).
