I logged and transfered avchd to prores 422. The clips showed up in the browser as Clip 1, 2, 3 etc.
I renamed the clips in the browser name column, which then sorted themselves alphabetically. I have lost the continuity of the shooting order and am wondering if someone can help me get the Clip 1, 2, 3, sort order back while retaining the clip names. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Sort by timecode. MEDIA START.

The media start times are all 00:00:00:00. Any other suggestions?

Oh dear…that’s right! The only way I can think of is to load the clips into L&T again, and manually…visually…take note. And next time you import, either choose a custom name and incremental numbering, or use ClipWrap that actually brings in timecode…instead of that 00:00:00:00 nonsense.

I will definitely handle the clip naming differently the next time I log and transfer. I was hoping not to go back and redo the file names as there is an extensive amount of footage involved. I was wondering if there is some function in the media manager that might allow me to regain the Clip 1, 2, 3… log as I have not renamed the media files just the browser clips. In any case I appreciate the quick response and your help in trying to solve this problem.

    Hi Gary,

If you haven’t renamed the original media files you could try right clicking on the clips in your bin and selecting revealing in finder. If the original clips aren’t named properly, you could try looking at the date created. If you captured them in order my assumption would be the oldest is Clip 1 and the newest is Clip 3. That would be my best bet.

Also to tag a question onto the end of this thread – clipwrap was mentioned and I am curious if that works at the same speed as L&T or if it is slower. I will be getting an HMC150 in the next few days and want to know the best way to maintain timecode and other file data.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

You are correct about right clicking on a clip to reveal in finder which reveals the thumbnail and original media name Clip 2016 along with thumbnails of all the other clips in sequential numbered order. As there are 3050 clips in the project it is a lot of work to go through each one clip by clip to manually regain the brower sort order but it is possible. I would like to see Apple modify the Browser to include the media name as well as the clip name which would help with media management.

As for clipwrap which Shane mentioned, I have no experience with the product. I looked at the website but I’m not ready to experiment with it at this time.

Thanks for the info. This forum rocks.
