Waveform doubts..

i manage my timeline-clips with CCorrection & other effects, keeping under control the waveform diagram..always a bit under the White limit (100)..then render..then the levels are not been kept! where I worked to keep the signal down the white limit now it looks like nothings changed and the limit is crossed..i should go on like this for ages?? isthere something i should know? or i’m missing?

August 17, 2010 at 10:10 pmFirstly if you are using the broadcast safe filter, it can show different levels after render. I haven’t seen that behavior with the 3 Way CC.
I use a third party broadcast safe filter which does seem to hold safe levels after render. It is a free filter, part of a filter pack that may be of interest to evaluate from these people –

I used to use that but it let me down on a shot once. Not sure why but it let peak whites past, even though I had it set to clamp above 96. Since then I have used the Film Bakery one and it has been better.

August 18, 2010 at 2:19 amI mean the RGB limiter filter. I started with the broadcast safe and noticed it changed levels after render. I then went to the RGB limiter filter and used that until it let me down and since then I have use the Film Bakery legalizer which does both luma and chroma legals and has been foolproof.
I also switched to grading in Color when FCS3 came out so I have less need for the FCP legalizer filters.

i work with HDV native footage in a Prores sequence (didn’t convert all HDV clips to prores, just set sequence to it)..it semms working fluently.. -

I asked you about your sequence because I think that the problem with the Scope is about 10b stuff.
The Scope works in 8b so when rendering in 10b it can never be precise.

If you are cutting HDV and exporting as Prores, you need to set “Render in High Precision”.
Otherwise you get an 8b picture packed as 10b.owever this won’t fix the Scope issue.
Thats an FC limitation.
You may use one of the suggested solutions, or use Color to legalize the picture.
At 32b processing, this shouldn’t harm at all your Prores movie.
