  24psf Pro res sequence settings

  Hi There,

  I am currently editing a film. The footage is.
  Apple Pro res(HQ)- 1920X1080- 24psf.

  I am using this on a sequence and match the sequence settings to the tape roll (as above). Simply by dragging to a new seqence and saying ‘yes’- I would like to match my settings.

  I noticed though on my sequence settings in it says next to frame size- HDTV 1080i(16:9). Instead of ‘P’ or PSF.

  Does anyone know if this is just how fcp displays?
  The field dominance is set to none.

  If anyone knows it would be much appreciated.

  Hi,

  Thanks for your speedy reply. If I am being honest this is my first 24p job.( finally got a movie to cut!) 🙂

  I am used to editing 50i mainly and sometimes 25p.
  Whats the best way to change this? Would it be changing audio/video settings?

  Just to be clear the footage was taken it 1920X1080 24psf Prores(HQ).
  Pal.

  So in sequences settings:

  Frame size – 1920 X 1080 – HDTV1080i(16:9) ? – not P or psf?
  pixel aspect ration- square
  field dominance – none
  editing timebase – 24
  compressor – apple ProRes 422 (HQ)

  If you manually try to change the (HDTV1080i)- you cannot select P for this size?

  Am working on FCP 6.5.

  That drop down menu for frame size has been a misnomer in FCP for years. All it is really supposed to say is “HDTV 1080 (16:9)”. The i is a stupid thing they left in there. When you set your sequence for field dominance=none, you are set for progressive sequence. That’s all you need.

  Thanks, yeah I thought it would be one of final cuts weird things! Thanks for the response. I will now edit progressive in piece. James

  24.0 is not a PAL frame rate, but is correct for filmic content being cut in PAL countries.

  PsF is the native for all 1080 content delivered for broadcast worldwide, the cameras can capture as progressive- but playback is delivered as interlace (segmented frame), this is no different that how film projected in a theatre.

  You are correct! I didn’t actually mean to put PAL. I am just so used to editing Pal material.

  With regards to psf that is very interesting although slightly confusing.

  Hi,

  No I work on SD and HD material every day.
  PSF however is misleading just by the name. The actual theory behind it makes sense.
