Just upgraded to Snow Leopard and FCS3, all was well (aw, all that’s in another post about the current crashing), trying to narrow the crashing down to a BM Decklink problem or something else, and wondering if there is any advangtage to rendering out from the timeline using “share” or “export”? And when to “send to Compressor” (from share) and when not to?

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

I always export a QT Using Current Settings (not QT Conversion) and use that file in Compressor for encoding.

ya, that’s what i was doing with FCP6, just feeling out the benefits of “share” vs. “export”.

right now “sharing” a 9 minute piece from my ProRes timeline, and sharing it with the iPod-m4v setting. So far, it’s rendered for an hour, with an approximate hour to go. seems abnormally long/slow…

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

Seems very slow. I recently encoded some mp4s and mpeg-2 for DVDs and both encoded faster than real time.

I always export. And Qmaster is set up so Compressor uses all the cores. That might not be possible when sharing, although, I’m not sure about that.

ya, i think i will continue to stick with export…

i went to bed a few hours ago thinking i would have time to let it “share” an iPod (m4v) file off the half hour ProRes timeline. five hours later (yes, little sleep these days!) it said it was only halfway done!

bummer, back to rendering out a single ProRes QT, then dumping it to my favorite droplet for uploading via YouSendIt to my client for preview…
