Still having problems.. I made a youtube video to show you how these clips are not working. All from the same import, all have the same amount of effects and a few clips are black…

can some one watch this and help if possible…

Ok already trashed prefs and wondering if there is other help I can get here… below was an email to a friend and he said post Q here…

It’s only on certain clips once they are on the timeline and when I double click on them they are black or digital fuzzy on the viewer. Also they go bad on the canvas window after a while and even when I render all it does not clear it up. If I start from the origonal source clip before it has the vinyete and the three way color correction effects on them, then its ok and I can put those two effects on there but back on the timeline these certain clips seem to mess up.
    What do you think?

    here is my set up.
iMac dual 2.0 only one gig of ram 🙁
    Os is 10.5.8
    Final Cut Studio is 5.1.4
I’m working in HD 1080p 60i from my Z1U camera and just using the effects that came with FCS

Hmmmm….try this. Make a new project. Load a clip into the viewer and then cut it into the sequence in the new project so that FCP will make the settings match. Then copy and paste the clips in your current sequence into the new one in the new project. Render. See if that works.

Thinking it might be a corrupt sequence. Maybe.

Brilliant idea to video the issue. MUCH easier to see what is going on that way. I wonder if this will catch on.

It’s odd that the black screens happen over transitions. It’s almost like you don’t have enough heads or tails. What happens if you delete a transition? Are the clips ‘joined’ in the timeline are are there gaps?

What format is your timline? Hit command-zero to bring up sequence settings.

Yes, videotaping helps a lot. You should also try screen capture software, it’s much easier to see.

Ok I figured out now that it is the Vignette plug that is screwing up these clips. AND now I tried to rebuild the sequence and when I wanted to add the Vignette its not even offered in the Video Filters anymore… wierd huh? AND when I go to the messed up seq. and copy and paste the Vignette it screws up my clips, fuzzy for trying to play them the first time… then black. I do want to use the Vignette effect, did it maybe install wrong? Is there a third party video filter company that makes stull like a Vignette and more that is more reliable?

Great idea to “show” us what’s happening.

My guess: go to your render manager and delete ALL renders. Everything you have. Nuke’em. Then, select all, and rerender. This looks like a render issue to me. Where are you setting your renders to save? Locally? An external media drive?

    Good luck.

WEll, it’s an fxplug which relies on your graphics card. Which iMac did you say you had? Really, what kind of graphics card is in there?

    FCP 5.1.4, right?

Go to Effects > Effect Availability and choose All Effects.

Nothin’ beats seeing it happen. I use iShowU and a USB mic to document support issues instead of typing paragraphs to exactly describe every menu and mouse click, only to have support still not understand. It also forces the support person to document the problem in their own words when creating the ticket.

I like iShowU because I can make long full desktop movies that are very small in size. It will take the framerate down to 1fr/sec when the mouse isn’t moving.
