Final cut pro 7 export to quicktime gives incorrect file size.
Ok I have a 10 minute video in pro ress 422 with a resolution of 1280x 384 that i went to file export quicktime movie. It exports the file size as 178 mb. I logged into another profile on the same computer and exported the same video with the same settings( because I used the media manager to copy to the other profile) in the same way and the file was like 3.11 gigs. How is this possible??? It doesn’t make any sense and I already tried trashing the .plist. How do I fix this??
I also tested a 30 min file going to file export and it was 600 mb but on the other profile it was 30 gigs? and it took 15 minutes to export doing file export quicktime movie. the 600 mb movie took 2 minutes. And they are not reference movies. they are fully contained. Thanks for all your help

Lots of oddities in your post. First, a 10 minute prores movie at 178 megs? Nope. Even a DV format QuickTime is 5 minutes per gigabyte and would be at least 2 gigs. What you have there is definitely a reference movie as 178mb is about right for 10 min of stereo audio, which doesn’t get referenced. And what’s with the bizarre 1280×384 size? That’s not a normal format.
I’m not sure why you’re media managing to go between profiles. Why not just put the files in some public area like the main hard drive. I’m guessing something may have happened there.
And are you sure you’re exporting the same length? Export is of course based on your marked in and out points.
Simply open both in QT and look at their specs. Something is different. Codec, length, dimensions, etc.

I know the pro ress lenght is off thats the problem. I have a screen that is 12 ft high and 60 ft long that three projectors display on to make 1 giant seamless image. Our normal canvas is 2560×768. We generally put a 16:9 interview in the center of the canvas so there is no distorition of the original image. the 1280×284 is a multiple of the 2560 canvas I was testing out to try and make my timeline render faster. And I only media managed copied to a new profile so that I could see if it was the footage that was wrong but it is working fine the way it is suppose to on the other profile… I don’t normally share projects to other profiles. And the length of the project is def the same. I’m going to check to make sure it says self contained tomorrow on the export. But I’m almost positive it was.
