Reduce Yellow Saturation Plugin
Hi guys, I know you can roll yellow towards its opposite in 3-way color corrector, but I want something more like Photoshop’s Hue/Saturation plugin where you can select only Yellow as a color and lower its saturation (or roll it more towards red or green.
It would be less about changing its hue than it is about lowering its saturation.
Works wonders on stills in Photoshop, and I could bring a clip into AE, but for such a simple task, anyone have a small nearly free plugin solution?

Look into the limit effect option on the 3-way color filter.

Correction. You can EASILY do this in Color using the HSL key.

Correction….if a simple yellow saturation plugin was written it would be waaaaaaayy simpler to drop it on a FCP clip in FC.
What if I make the change in color and the client wants 10 more frames on the shot? what if I replace it with another take and have to round trip again into color?
Rather have a simpler solution to do it right in FCP.
The guy who wrote Too Much Too Soon plugins wrote one for me a while back and it worked great. It was basically a saturation adjuster for all the colors, not just red green and blue but cyan magenta and yellow. Worked perfectly.
I’ll be looking him up again!

That’s why you always render with handles. I render with 2 second handles on pretty much everything. 1 second minimum.

You round trip that single shot into Color and bring it back. Piece of cake.

Color is a simple solution if you create a good workflow to back and forth. But for folks who don’t want to use it, you can always buy plug-ins like Colorista II.
We pretty much use Color for everything here. Client changes are pretty simple when you know how to work the project.

My experience with round tripping to Color was not very simple at all. Especially for a easy quick fix.
Let me say way more cumbersome than dropping a simple effect on a clip and bringing down yellow saturation.
Color might be a great tool, but it cannot possibly be more simple than plopping an effect on a clip.
I have been round tripping clips to AE forever and do it in my sleep, but it is never as simple as adding an effect right in FCP if that effect does the job.
Anyone else?

Correction. As in Color Corrector 3 way.
As has been mentioned, you select the color with limit effect, and tone it down with either low, mids, highs, or saturation sliders depending on wxactly what it is you need. No need to add a complementary color.
Or Color, but you no likey.

I’ll give you a tip I give everyone else who needs to do “quick fixes” in Color.
Make your changes in the FCP timeline.
Pull out the shots you just made changes to and put them in their own timeline. One shot, two shots, whatever.
Send that timeline to Color.
Make your fixes and send back to FCP.
Copy and paste the newly color corrected shots into your master FCP timeline.
Most people think you must send the entire FCP timeline back to Color if you add / change shots. Nope, just send the changes and cut them back into the original timeline.
For future use.

Then copy paste. Are you trying to bring yellow in to broadcast safe?
