  • ProRes LT in FCP6?

    Hi all,

    I’m currently running FCP 6.06/QT 7.6.4/OS10.4.11.

I’ve a client who’s been cutting on FCP7 in ProRes LT. Porting the sequence across isn’t a problem – it’s a simple cuts only programme and I’ll use XML. What I’m wondering is if there’s any way to get LT on FCP6, as an additional codec, or do I need to upgrade?

I’m currently media-managing the sequence in to ProRes (standard) but would prefer to edit in the native format if at all possible.

As ever, your expertise would be invaluable!

Need to upgrade. You can’t install the codecs separately.

Just a thought. Does the Decoder Apple gives anyone have LT in it? Can it be used along with FCP6’s full ProRes Codec. If it does you would be able to edit the native LT and set the compressor type to standard PR, that way it would only need to convert if something needed rendering. Worth a look into.

As I Recall, it didn’t. I remember testing all sorts of ProRes files on the receptionists iMac when the decoder was included in QT 7.6. The main 422 and HQ worked, but not LT or Proxy.

yeah you could open it and play it but it would give an error if you put it on the timeline.

Ahh thought as much. Thanks for your input – guess it’s time to take the plunge and upgrade.

I’ve successfully transcoded via Media Manager so other than the time hit I’ve a workaround for now.

Now, off to order a drive and some upgrades… clean install here we come!
