I’m currently working on a job which was shot in XDCAM 1080p24.(1920×1080)
(now FCP doesn’t like this format at the best of times – at least mine doesn’t)
But my real problem is that a reshoot has wrongly handed me a few important shots, at HDV1080i60. (1440 x 1080)
As you might imagine, adding these shots to my 1080p timeline is a disaster – they just won’t play and they screw everything else up. I must turn off the computer to get back to a working timeline.

So, I imagine that either Compressor or MPEG Streamclip are in my future – but any ideas what I should convert to? Simply making the clips 1920×1080 makes everyone fat and it still doesn’t address the time problem. Help please – and thank you in advance.

You just need to add pulldown to the 1080p 24 clips and work in a 1080i timeline. I’m guessing compressor to add te pulldown. I’d use After Effects, but just because I’m familiar with that. 1920 and 1440 are the same width. One is just anamorphic and the other fully square pixels. There should be no conflict there.

Thanks Bret, but surely that won’t deal with the fact that the time is different too – 29.97 versus 23.98?
BTW: I see they want to demote us to the FCP Basics forum – bummer.
