  proper viewing for converting 1280×720 to SD 720×576

  Hello all,
  I have what may be a basic question, but I wanted to be absolutely certain before I went ahead with this.

  I’m working on an animated series and I have decided to go with a workflow that involves converting artist submissions with QTpro into dvcpro pal, so that I can work without much need for a large amount of space and processing power.

  They submit their shots as either avi’s or .movs at 1280×720 25fps. What I need to know is if by converting to SD 720×576, if its necessary for me to letterbox it, or if I can use the 16:9 option?
  They both seem to preserve the original aspect ratio, with the only difference seeming to appear in the size of the image on client monitor (which is actually just another computer monitor.)

  This is all for offline editing only.

  Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

  Okay, just thought I would update and see if anyone can still offer some advice.

  I’m trying to convert HD 1280×720 shots into SD 720×576.

  I’ve decided to go with 16:9 option, as opposed to letterbox, so the shots become anamorphic.

  It all almost seems to work, but there are small black lines on each side which does not fill out to the width of screen as it does when I’m editing the actual HD files. I can get rid of them by increasing the footage size and then squishing it down, but I don’t want to have to do that for every single shot. As each episode is 400 shots and there are 26 episodes.

  Anyone have any thoughts?
