HD Workflow for Dummies
Hello Creative Cows,
I’m looking for a laymans term, ‘for dummies’ explanation of the proper HD workflow. Where I work, we are for some reason still stuck in the miniDV DVCAM standard def world. I know there is a whole world out there of HD-this, transcode-that to which I have limited understanding.
I am more or less self taught in FCP and can handle standard def, straight from tape footage fine, no problem. But because there are so many different formats of HD, I’m just wondering what the sure shot way of doing things is. I have worked with P2 footage which seems to work fine straight from Log and Transfer, but my co-worker has been having trouble with H.264 footage and our camera guy will be getting a JVC camera that has an MPEG2 Long GOP codec…whatever that is.
If it were up to me, I’d convert everything to ProRes 422 as I’ve done that in the past with H.264 footage and the editing process was fine. I converted everything with MPEG Streamclip. I imagine there being a better, more efficient way of dealing with HD footage.
Any advice or simple-to-read articles would be great!
Thanks in advance.
