Okay.. so I have a deadline coming up, and I am trying to import P2 footage that I captured and cannot be re-shot. I have it organized into the person’s name who I interviewed. There are 5 folders set up like that. In each folder I have CONTENTS1 and CONTENTS2 from both of the p2 data I imported from the camera. I also have folders with the Canon T2i data imported. T2i footage works fine. However, when I want to grab data off of CONTENTS1, all it will bring up in the log and transfer window is CONTENTS2.

I REALLY need to get this video edited TODAY. So is there anyone that has an idea what’s going on here?

    Thanks!

Today is almost over. Always keep your P2 data in separate folders. (Card 01, Card 02, etc.). That folder should include a Contents folder and Last clip.txt file.

With ShotPut Pro, you will never run into P2 offload problems. You also will have flawless log and transfer results.

Don’t name the CONTENTS folders. Leave them alone. You need to put the folders (and the lastclip.txt file) into ANOTHER folder. That is the folder that you name.

FCP will not recognize the file structure if you name the CONTENTS folder.

Thanks for the response guys. Let me clarify.. I labled a folder CONTENTS1 and put CONTENTS from p2card 1 in there. and so on for the other. What I think i missed was copying the lastclip file with it. Is there any way of salvaging the footage? :\

Try re-naming the first folder to – P2_001

In that folder should be: CONTENTS

In the CONTENTS folder you should have:

    AUDIO
    CLIP
    ICON
    PROXY
    VIDEO
    VOICE

Now if you cannot import through L & T THEN:

    Go buy RAYLIGHT from https://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac/index.htm

I don’t work for them but have only used RAYLIGHT since it was created.
Has saved my weeks – maybe years of transfer time…OK not years but you get
    the idea….

It writes a little .mov header from the .MXF file and then you can import
that into FCP and start editing.

#38-P2 – Missing LASTCLIP.txt file. How to rebuild.

Shane’s Stock Answer #38 – When you offloaded the P2 cards, you forgot to get the LASTCLIP.tct file? No worries, not all is lost.

    MISSING LASTCLIP.TXT FILE:

    https://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58755

If you neglected to copy the “lastclip.txt” file all is not lost. Much like the six million dollar man, we can rebuild him.

Lastclip.txt can be generated by any text editor. If you are using a mac then open up textedit.

Create a new txt file. It will have 3 lines to it.

The first line is the name of the last clip that was recorded.

Back to the finder. Open up your CONTENTS folder. In there, open up your VIDEO folder. Organize the folder by Date Last Modified. Find the name of the last file in this folder. If you have 16 clips in the folder is will be 0016ag.mxf or something like that. Four numbers and two letters followed by .mxf.

Take this name and place in the first line of your text file. On the next line of the text file type in “1.0” (don’t include the quotes).

The third line is the number of clips in the folder +1. If you have 16 clips then the third line should read “17” (again no quotes).

I’m not 100% sure if the number on the third line is the number of clips left in the folder (after any on-set deletions) or if it is the total number of clips generated during this session with the card. Try both. Remember to add 1 to that number.

Your txt file should like something like this:

    0016ab.mxf
    1.0
    17

That’s it. You should be good to go. Put your CONTENTS folders in separate folders with separate LASTCLIP.txt folders and import them as separate P2 cards.

The annoying thing is that all of the various .mxf files in these 6 folders are locked items and they must all be unlocked manually to erase them.

It’s much easier to import direct into FCP 5.0.4 or higher. It does so without leaving all of these locked files on your computer.

Credit for this solution goes to Randy Wedick.

Sounds like a commercial I’ve seen.

Fcp should recognize the p2 footage without the lastclip file.

It sounds to me like your file structure might be screwed up.
