I’m using FCP 7 on a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon machine with 13 GB of RAM and the standard NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphics card with only 256MB of VRAM, and I am so tired of long render times and “Out of Memory” error messages when rendering multi-layered composites in the FCP sequence. I’m sure someone has already been down this path so I would greatly appreciate it if someone could recommend a Graphics Card upgrade that is compatible with this Mac Pro and and would reduce the render time and eliminate the Out of Memory errors messages. I’d like to keep costs under $1000 if possible.

Which MacPro 2.1, 3.1 or what? there was a major change in PCI slots as if your system has PCI 2 you have more options, if not you can get the X1900 or put in a newer ATI PCI2 and get some of the benefit.

This will not help with FCP, it will help with Color and Motion. At this time FCP does not take advantage of the GPU.
