I have a problem transferring my FCP project to logic.

For syncing video and audio, software from Videotoolshed was used. The software creates a Quicktime reference file for each clip with a link to the original video file and audio files. These QT-ref files were used in FCP.
The problem is that FCP only knows these files – when using Media Manager for example, only the QT-ref files are placed in the media files folder and not the original files.
Using a XML file in Logic creates problems because it can’t handle the mov files.

Is there a way to link the clips to the original files?
Reconnecting in FCP doesn’t work because an in and outpoint in a QT-ref file is different from the in and outpoint from the original file. Besides, FCP won’t let me reconnect a clip to a file with a different extension.

    Thank you!

You can export an OMF which re wraps the audio into embedded wav files. Logic, I believe, can import OMFs although a poster the other day was complaining about sync anomolies with an FCP OMF into Logic.

It should be quick and simple to try

It’s a feature film so the audio data exceeds the OMF limit. Besides, we want the XML to link to the original folder structure so it’s easy to find other takes of an audio file.

It is easy to overcome the 2 gig file limit by splitting the project into 20 minute chunks and putting them back together in the audio system. We do that regularly as I am doing both TV hour and feature length programs.

As you are having problems with linking back to your original files anyway, the OMF at least gets the major import problem solved.
